Last night, Samsung unveiled in London at the Mobile Unpacked event its new technological masterpiece, the Galaxy S III, which proved to be the best smartphone on the market at present-day and a heavy competitor to Apple’s iPhone 4S.
Both Samsung and Apple scored high smartphone selling during the last quarters; Apple sold 35.1B iPhones but it got beat in revenues by Samsung, who failed to mention the exact number of the smartphones it sold. It seems that Samsung looks at the smartphone market from above mostly due to its technological power and the Galaxy S III is the best evidence for that.
The new Galaxy S III is powered by a quad-core 1.4-gigahertz Samsung Exynoss processor with 1 GB of RAM that supports up to 128GB internal memory including also a micro SD card. The iPhone 4S integrates an A5 processor that offers 512MB of Ram. The S III model supports also LTE; heavy technology indeed and heavy smartphone also.
The S III model has a Gorilla Glass 4.8-inch display based on the AMOLED technology, which is obviously larger than the 3.5-inch screen of the iPhone, turning also the sizes larger; the S III has 136.6 by 70.6 millimeters while the 4S has 115.2 by 58.6. Still, Samsung’s new smartphone is a little thinner and a bit more lightweight than Apple’s 4S model, having a polycarbonate plastic body.
I don’t know if it’s just me, or the names of the models Galaxy S III and iPhone 4S have something in common. However, the true common aspect of the two smartphones is the S Voice feature of the Galaxy S III, which seems to be a clone of iPhone’s Siri.
As for the design, which is “inspired by nature,” I reckon that Samsung never managed to reach Apple’s innovation and sleekness and that the Galaxy S III deserved a more appealing body. Anyway, let’s give Samsung the chance to receive all the cheers for the technology implemented in the Galaxy S III until Apple releases its new iPhone.
